THE WEEKLY SHORELINER'S REPORT
Summary:
Tough times ahead this week with low sluggish tides in the morning and
strong winds by Noon, combined with continued murky water form the spring
runoff. But there is good news: the fish are moving and if you find
deep pockets you will find decent catches.
STRIPED BASS:
Current good spots are Martinez from the pier to the SP tracks, and then
all the down between Candlestick Park and Coyote Point. Live
baits are good in the south; shrimp baits are working upriver. Golden
Gate Fields and Marina Bay have schoolies on worms when the tide is up
and just starting to move out.
STURGEON:
Martinez, same scan as the stripers, has some good fishing on shrimp baits
now for shoreliners. Pick the incoming tide.
PERCH:
April 1 marks the closure for perch fishing (save for shiners) inside the
bays until August 1. Most of the fish
found along the rocks and the pilings are already gravid. No
point in any last ditch efforts to keep them now. On the surf it's
not all that different. Hot spots have been by the rock/sand transitions
south of the Gate, like San Gregorio. Motoroil grubs all the way.
MISCELLANEOUS SPECIES: No changes. Jacksmelt are still at Berkeley Pier in good numbers. They are oozing eggs. Halibut are definitely in the South Bay and live bait is the ticket. Try Oyster Point. South Bay is a good place for sharks and rays now as well. Rockfish are off the table until May 1. Then lingcod will be limited to one per day at a minimum size of 30 inches.
