THE WEEKLY SHORELINER'S REPORT
Summary:
This morning came in on the lowest tide of the year and the winds were
already pounding in the bays and sea. Says it all.
STRIPED BASS:
San Pablo Bay is the closest shot, and only so-so. You need high
water and low winds, which pretty much pushes the fishing into the darker
hours. Live baits are always best, but the water is so murky that
the scent of cut bait might be a help. Lures are tough from shore
this week. San fRancisco Bay is just funky until you get to the gate,
where the Fort Point rocks might work for hair raisers at the start
of the daytime outgoing tide. The surf has been misbehaving
by day and the moon-washed nights are not going to aid fishing there
STURGEON:
Excellent fishing going on for boaters who brave the winds and hang tight
at the Mothball Fleet. Shoreliners ought to find some good
diamondbacks at Montezuma Slough, Martinez and Port Costa. Eckley
Pier is not producing, though.
PERCH:
April 1 marks the closure for perch fishing (save for shiners) inside the
bays until August 1. Not too great on
the surf because it so nasty lately. Monterey Bay is the only
sandy area where good grubbing and lighter winds are found.
MISCELLANEOUS SPECIES: Sharks and rays in the evening hours. Halibut are hard to find, to put it mildly.
