THE WEEKLY SHORELINER'S REPORT
Summary:
The Solstice occurred this last week but summer has been here a long, long
time. Winds, funky low water, and elusive fish. Same as it ever was.
STRIPED BASS:
Get on a decent tide and throw out bait at Point Pinole or China Camp.
Or pitch hair raisers from the rocks at Fort Point. Ocean Beach
through Sloat Blvd has some nice schoolies at dawn or dusk on a variety
of baits.
STURGEON: It's
quiet. Too quiet. Listen for the rumors coming out Martinez
Pier and along the south shores of the Carquinez. Pile worms and
grass shrimp have been good for a few fish here and there.
PERCH:
April 1 marks the closure for perch fishing (save for shiners) inside the
bays until August 1. Looking nice on
the surf these days before Noon for baits and artificials. Lots of
beach to cover: stay mobile.
MISCELLANEOUS SPECIES: Sharks and rays and little else. Halibut are scarce though a few have been landed off of Oyster Point. But as an old salt once said: "They can't see bait, they won't bite bait." So consider dead anchovies for their scent. Get off the piers and work the rocks. Rockfish are good on the low tides with squid strips.
