THE WEEKLY SHORELINER'S REPORT
Summary:
We enjoy a slight reprieve from the minus tide cycles and perhaps a pause
from all this windy nonsense. But will the fish cooperate?
The water is just God-awful on this side of the bays.
STRIPED BASS:
Best spots this past week have been on the Marin side from Loch Lomond
to Paradise. Live baits all the way, though lure enthusiasts are
showing up late afternoons and getting bumps. The Fort Point rocks
and the surf are good bets for hair raisers and poppers respectively.
STURGEON: All
this fast murky water ought to be good for something, and it is.
Now that the tides have settled down, the very start of the incoming can
be a boon along the north side of the Carquinez from Crockett to Martinez.
Montezuma Slough has them past the red barn. Shrimp baits and pile
worms. If you don't mind urban settings, the Napa River is getting
a lot of sturgeon hunters form Lemon street to Highway 37 and some points
above. They are using eel and shrimp for some large fish.
PERCH:
April 1 marks the closure for perch fishing (save for shiners) inside the
bays until August 1. No change. Not
too great on the surf because it so nasty lately. Monterey
Bay is the only sandy area where good grubbing and lighter winds are found.
MISCELLANEOUS SPECIES: Same situation. Sharks and rays in the evening hours. Halibut are hard to find, to put it mildly. The Berkeley Pier vets have packed it in.
