THE WEEKLY SHORELINER'S REPORT
Summary: August is upon us. A month of transition or more of the same? Lots of weeds on the seashore these days.
STRIPED BASS:
Lackluster in the bays and not great on the surf. Cut baits
in the Carquinez, live baits in San Pablo Bay, worms in SF Bay, and some
sporadic luck on artificials throughout.
STURGEON:
Boaters are finding them by the Mothball Fleet and inside Montezuma Slough,
but other than that, pretty slow.
PERCH: Sunday
returns perch to legal quarry within the bays. Look for structure or rockwalls
and offer pile worms. should be some nice pogies and pile perch around.
The surf is a hard sell, what with red tides below Davenport and just piles
and piles of kelp and grass clumped all the way up to Point Reyes.
Grubbers will get barred south of the Gate and redtail north, but you will
have more weight from weeds than fish when you reel in.
MISCELLANEOUS SPECIES: Halibut are outside, and hard cases will work for them near Baker's Beach or Seal Rock (with, yes, plenty of weeds). Forget bait and try to keep your lures moving. Rays and sharks abide within the bays. Salmon are filtering through and spotted at Fort Baker, Tiburon, and Benicia. But few have been caught as yet. Patience!
