THE WEEKLY SHORELINER'S REPORT

Summary: Good water movement and rains have churned up the bays and brought in the herring.

STRIPED BASS:  Stil pretty lackluster around the bays with the occasional rogue coming in on fishy baits or pile worms.   Bullheads are getting some nice fish in the Suisun, but further up the system the debris is too thick to make the trip worthwhile.

STURGEON: Herring are making their presence known by t he Towers, though this is bad luck given the recent closure.  But the bite is good from about McNear's (where they are still getting a fair amount of undersized green sturgeon) to the Petaluma River and then again in the Carquinez on the Contra Costa side.  Shrimp baits all the way.   South Bay has them near Dumbarton Bridge on the same baits.

PERCH:  Not a lot of change this week. Still comparatively mediocre results along the rocks and pilings.  Some large pile perch around, but they are solitary and it is a long time between bites.  Better action is possible on the surf north of the Gate, with some nice barred and redtail perch available on bait or plastic grubs.  And Monterey bay is worth the drive when the surf behaves: some huge barred perch there for grubbers.

MISCELLANEOUS SPECIES:   Kingfish on the piers, jacksmelt from ledges, especially at Fort Baker, and the dabs are just starting to filter in.  Flounder are on the San Pablo flats and extended all the way to the Suisun. Now is also a good time to get yourself some herring for bait or snacks.
