THE WEEKLY SHORELINER'S REPORT
Summary: The tides improve significantly this week as the waxing moon brings on the faster water. Some rain ahead but not too threatening, just enough to stir up the bottom. Warmer temperatures are a real possibility. These three components could add up to the best 10 days of fishing this season has offered.
STRIPED BASS: The bays are still unproductive. But legal sized stripers are pretty close to the river mouths at Petaluma, Sonoma, and Napa, and also along the southern shores where the Carquinez meets the Suisun. And you can always head up river to the North Delta. Live baits are best in the big waters and cut baits will do well in the rivers or sloughs.
STURGEON: The Super Bowl weekend has great tides and weather and only the super bowl warriors can ruin it. If you can't wait until Monday, try to fish somewhere outside the realm of derby boats. McNear's and China Camp, Crockett and Martinez, Dumbarton Pier--these areas have produced fish for shoreliners. Herring, grass shrimp, pile worms.
PERCH: Slow
in the bay, better on the surf. Grubbing will get some nice retails
and barred perch north of the Gate on the beaches. So will bait though
not for as many fish.
MISCELLANEOUS SPECIES: Tough week for the bank workers for unfathomable reasons. Should have been more flounder caught on these mellower tides. Same thing with rockfish. But the numbers were low and skunks were common. Some sturgeon hunters brought up some small sharks in the south bay but that wa sit. Kingfish are in the bays and available from almost any pier.
