THE WEEKLY SHORELINER'S REPORT

Summary: Lots of griping going on this past week about sluggish tides, storm churned water, strong winds, and lousy fishing.  Adapt or be skunked, same as always.   Tides have picked up and will run swiftly through this weekend and the next.   Fish accordingly.

STRIPED BASS:  Some bass are getting caught on live bait in San Pablo Bay, mostly to the north and west, and then more by the Mothball Fleet in the Susuin Bay.  Best bets would be China Camp at the top of the tide and Martinez or Benicia on the incoming.  Or soak some anchovies or pile worms at Ashby/Frontage Road and hope for a large rogue patrolling the flats.  It could happen.

STURGEON: Everybody is reporting the same two fish caught from a  boat at the northern point of the triangle.   Other than that, disappointments rule, but the smart money is on the Contra Costa side of the Carquinez this week.  All the salmon roe that kept them biting by the Mothball is gone and the fish are moving around the Ozol Pier vicinity.  South Bay is a bust but that could change with the big push of water in and out during this week's extreme tides.

PERCH: Slow tides were a boon for those who got out and worked the East Bay rocks for limits of black perch on pile worms and grass shrimp.  Across the Bay the striped perch action has been pretty good, with some large ones in the mix.  Grass shrimp and pile worms, in that order.  On the surf, though it has been rough with towering swells and brutal surf, there are some big barred and redtail perch on grubs north of the Gate.  But be careful.

MISCELLANEOUS SPECIES:   Leopard sharks in the south bay on anything, flounder on grass shrimp in San Pablo bay and the Suisun.  Herring are centered around Angel Island and the Richmond Flats, but not in huge or accessible numbers.
