THE WEEKLY SHORELINER'S REPORT
Summary:
It is not your imagination. The water temperatures have gone up.
If this continues, look for instincts triggering and fish moving towards
the love connection.
STRIPED BASS:
There are schoolies scattered throughout Montezuma Slough and in the Suisun
and they will take cut baits and worms. Veteran anglers are working
mudsuckers in the back waters from the Delta down to Napa River. and bullheads
in the bay waters. River mouths are still the better prospect but
some stripers are at China Camp, Point Pinole, and Rodeo.
STURGEON:
A little slow this past week with slower tides but it will change.
Fish have been caught in Montezuma Slough, Port Costa, the Napa River well
up beyond Highway 37, and just out of reach from China Camp. South
Bay had a flurry of catches (and quite a few losses) during a small herring
spawn, but it is pretty dead now.
PERCH: Pile perch
and pogies are getting caught from the rocks and pilings but rarely in
good numbers or sizes. Keep mobile and find a school.
Barred perch are still outside the gate and rubberlips are beginning to
crank it up by Fort Point on grass shrimp or pile worms. Some large striped
perch are at both towers of the Gate. The spawn is on for some fish in
the ocean. Fixed rigs with pile worms are working on the surf for redtail
and barred perch, and grubbing with 2" pumpkinseeds has been reasonable
as well. Walleyed perch are ubiquitous.
MISCELLANEOUS SPECIES: Kingfish and jacksmelt are on the piers on both sides of the Bay and will hit anchovies or pile worms, on standard rigs or floating rigs. Small sharks and rays are out and about in San Francisco. Halibut are the stuff of dreams still. Flounder are scattered from Berkeley Pier to Montezuma Slough and are really too small to keep.
