THE WEEKLY SHORELINER'S REPORT

Summary: Friday the 13th, unlucky?  Maybe for the fish! Changes in the air and on the water.  Less weeds around this week.

STRIPED BASS: Fairly uninspiring this past week: too much bait on the surf?  But the dark of the moon should be a boon to plugging during the large incoming tides at night all this next week.  Some fish are getting caught on bait and lures at San Quentin Point, and bullheads will provide action throughout San Pablo Bay.  Or head down to Oyster Point and below for some early evening action on hair raisers or live baits.

STURGEON:  Napa River and Montezuma Slough.

PERCH: Good black perch fishing in the East Bay and decent striped and pile perch prospects by both towers of the Gate.  Pile worms or grass shrimp.   Grubbing is very good on the surf, with pumpkinseeds in 2 inches a very good idea.  Still more barred perch south of the Gate and redtails to the north.  Walleyes everywhere.  Bait will bring in some nice striped perch, either pile worms or foraged sand crabs.

MISCELLANEOUS SPECIES: Still hearing about boaters getting halibut on the drift inside the Bay, but it just is not happening for shoreliners.  Outside, the best prospects are also in some of the more hairy spots, so have a care if you attempt Seal Rock or Point Bonita.   Try orange-tinged or blue swimbaits.  Salmon are coming in and racing through the system. Fort Baker,  Paradise and then Rodeo and Benicia will be places to monitor.  Sharks and rays are always around.
