THE
WEEKLY SHORELINER'S REPORT
http://www.songslinger.net/fishing.html
Summary:
The equinox has finally kicked in and the longer nights are holding on
to the cooler weather. Minus tides in the wee hours make for some
murky water by sunrise but the movement is good and promising for early
risers.
STRIPED BASS: Both bays have stripers right now, with the best potential working both sides of the banks beginning San Pablo Bay. Live bait is excellent and lures are cutting through the tedium. Try Loch Lomond through China Camp or Point Pinole through Rodeo.
STURGEON: Diamondbacks are getting landed in the Suisun and in the deeper channels of Montezuma Slough. Try Port Costa or the Red Barn, or explore South Bay when the water is up. Shrimp baits hold the best opportunity. No rain yet but the water is looking better each week.
PERCH:
It's improving all along the rocky shores and both Emeryville and Berkeley
piers for black perch if you drop down some pile worms. As is usually
the case, you have to find the schools. Action heading out the gate
is fairly unremarkable with the typical fare of striped perch on grass
shrimp or pile worms. The coast is still the best bet for quantity
and quality, providing you use artificial grubs in brown or green motor
oil with green flecks. Still a nice share of barred and redtail perch
(with the occasional pestering walleyes) from Pacifica to Ocean Beach and
then Muir to Point Reyes.
MISCELLANEOUS SPECIES: Last week for cabezon and greenlings before they are removed from the list for the rest of the year. But you can find them if you are diligent and know your environment. Same thing with rockfish and lings. The dedicated angler will be fine. Halibut have all but left the building, so to speak, though smallish stragglers persist along the coves from Berkeley to San Quentin, and then again by Oyster Point. Rays and sharks are around. So are jacksmelt and kingfish. But none of these species are exactly ripping up the scene. Salmon are fairly represented at the rodeo water treatment and then again from Glen Cove through Benicia. Spinners with chartreuse skirts seem to be best.
