THE WEEKLY SHORELINER'S REPORT

Summary:  Fleet Week is on, so be aware that cruisers, crowds, and aircraft will be all over the land, sea and sky.

STRIPED BASS:  Best spots right now are from San Quentin to China Camp, a little scattering on the south banks of San Pablo Bay, and then some good fishing prospects in Martinez on the banks and pier.  Bait rules the day, with bullheads or live shiners, and cut anchovies or grass shrimp, and then lures of the rattling type.  Incoming is good.  Also some schools wandering below Candlestick Point.

STURGEON:  Port Costa is the best shot you'll have this week.  They are there.

PERCH:  Pretty good all around within the boundaries of the Bay on pile worms and grass shrimp. Usual fish are black and pile perch on the east side and those are joined by striped and a few rubberlip on the west side.  Redtail and barred perch in good numbers and fair sizes are available on the surf with pumpkin seed or motoroil grubs.  Incoming in the afternoon is best.

MISCELLANEOUS SPECIES:  Straggler halibut persist around Oyster Point and in the cove between San Quentin and Paradise.  Live bait and lures are okay.  Salmon taperd off this week but there are still nice bright fish at Rodeo (and lots of DFG so be legal) and Benicia.  Typical spinners here.  South Bay is good for rays and sharks, and seven gill are starting to show in the East Bay between Albany and Richmond.  Squid all the way.  Rockfish are fair when the winds cooperate and the surf behaves.
