THE
WEEKLY SHORELINER'S REPORT
http://www.songslinger.net/fishing.html
Summary: Cold
May, savage winds, midday minus tides, murky water, yet the fish are still
getting caught. Imagine what a warm spell would accomplish!
STRIPED
BASS: Another swarm of schoolies has entered the Bay System and live
bait will make the magic happen from Rodeo to Berkeley. It has tapered
down a bit these last few days with the harsh weather but the quest is
still very much worth pursuing. If plugging is your forte, try the
bridges (Carquinez, Richmond, San Francisco, and Golden Gate) or the Marin
shoreline with hair raisers and rattling lures. Bait is still the
best prospect for ocean bass, though the action has slowed some recently.
STURGEON:
South Bay, mostly on the east side. Take advantage of the low
water in the middle of the day. And get ready for late spring action
when the snow melts in the Sierras and the runoff gushes our way.
PERCH:
The
theater is dark in the bays until August. The
surf has been a bit too hairy lately.
MISCELLANEOUS SPECIES: Berkeley Pier produced some good halibut in the 30" range on live anchovies, yet the rate of catch has dwindled as the week progresses. Blame it on cold water and crappy tides. However, fish are caught every day. This is still the place to be right now. Some anglers have brought them in on white hair raisers, too. Oyster Point slowed down to a crawl. But Dumbarton is a good place for sharks, leopards and seven gills, on squid. Bat rays are in the bays but still in smallish sizes and not at all in the quantities we'd expect this time of year. Warm days will change all that.
