THE
WEEKLY SHORELINER'S REPORT
http://www.songslinger.net/fishing.html
Summary:
The Bay is where it's at. Foggy mornings, smooth water, and then
the zephyrs and choppy white caps after Noon. Dress in layers and
get out there.
STRIPED
BASS: Stripers continue to please pluggers from China Camp to Loch Lomond
at the end of the incoming tide on hair raisers. Bait is okay, too,
so long as it is fresh. Good fishing from the I-80 Bridge through
Point Pinole. For the rest of the East Bay, it is so-so to good,
with Berkeley Pier still getting the best of it on opportunistic bass snacking
on all the live anchovies and shiners put out for halibut. Fort Point
is closed due to the orange alert, so that puts the kibosh on the annual
plugging from the rocks. The beaches have been barren or nearly
so due to the high winds.
STURGEON:
Some boaters are getting them near Ozol Pier but few if any shoreliners
are trying right now.
PERCH:
The
theater is dark in the bays until August. High
winds and funky surf makes for some lousy perch fishing on the beach right
now. But the pressure is high and the winds will be calmer next week.
Who knows?
MISCELLANEOUS
SPECIES: Male halibut have arrived at Berkeley Pier and they are
small but frisky, full of fertilizer, apparently caught in the act.
Some females are getting pulled up. It's steady work but not spectacular.
Putting in time and using live bait will pay off. Chartreuse
hair raisers have picked up several from the rocks in recent days.
Rays and sharks are mostly in the South Bay or a night thing. Shiners,
small smelt and baby walleyed perch are all over, so lots of bait is in
the water.
