THE
WEEKLY SHORELINER'S REPORT
{http://songslinger.virtualave.net/fishing.html}
Summary: Spring is upon us. And the fish knew it before we did. They are entering the bays from both ends and it's high time you caught some.
STRIPED BASS: Marin is the best shot at good sizes these days. Find a good incoming tide or a spot with a decent depth and use shrimp baits, cut fishy baits, or even better, live bullheads. Also scout the shoreline from Rodeo to Point Molate. And there are some good prospects in the Carquinez, either on the Martinez or Benicia side, with similar baits.
STURGEON: With all the frenzy going on in the Suisun of late, you'd think there were no sturgeon elsewhere. Not true. Yes, you have a chance in Pittsburg, Martinez, and down to Port Costa, but you are better off being persistent on the Marin Coast from China Camp to San Quentin, where there was a recent herring spawn. Bay Farm Island, or the Alameda Rockwall good choices.
PERCH: Still a story of black and pile perch on the rocks or pier pilings in the east bay, and then striped perch added to this mix across the Bay. The surf has calicos and walleyes, with the occasional huge barred perch in the mix. All baits are effective.
MISCELLANEOUS SPECIES: Not much change. Kingfish are the norm at all tides in the deep channels. Some halibut in the mix over at Crissy Field on swimbaits, and bait fishermen are getting strays at Oyster Point and a few at Berkeley Pier Sharks and rays are sporadic, just now wandering into the bays.
