THE WEEKLY SHORELINER'S REPORT

http://www.songslinger.net/fishing.html

Summary:  Big tides coming our way this week.  Could this be the start of something good?

STRIPED BASS:  Not much going on this past week, save for scattered incidents of striper catches from the beaches through Benicia and a little flurry of action adjacent Martinez Pier.  Hard to pin down the bite, but the lucky anglers have been using cut anchovies.  Big "IF" this time of year: if the water stays somewhat clear and cold and the bass begin to head back into the bays...we could see a small herald of the fall run fairly soon.

STURGEON:  Boaters are seeing a good amount of diamondbacks throughout the Suisun and Carquinez, though most fish are shakers.  Even so, it's worth a shot at the usual shoreline locations when the tides bring the fish near.

PERCH:  Black and pile perch in the East Bay on pile worms--work the rocky banks where the water is 6 feet or better--striped perch near the Gate towers on pile worms and grass shrimp, and then redtail and barred perch on motor oil grubs on the beaches north and south.  If you can bear the wind you can catch fish.

MISCELLANEOUS SPECIES: Same deal as last week pretty much. Kingfish are in San Francisco east of Crissy Field.  Jacksmelt are at Fort Baker.  Pile worms or anchovies.   Sharks remain on the small side at night and bat rays come in all sizes, with the deeper channels yielding the biggest fish.  Rockfish hold steady in the usual habitats on squid and anchovies.  Halibut are hanging around the cove between Tiburon and San Quentin as well as the beaches north of the Gate.   Salmon are wandering through California City and some are passing Benicia.
