THE WEEKLY SHORELINER'S REPORT
{http://songslinger.virtualave.net/fishing.html}

Summary: Rain, rain, plenty of rain!  Nothing subtle about the first storm of the season.  And it could not have come at a more opportune time.  With the current minus tide cycle, this means a good scrubbing of the system and  fishy instincts triggered to perfection.   Get your wet gear together and get ready for the winter methodology.

STRIPED BASS: Lures are going to be a tough prospect for the next few days until the tides even out.  So think bait, live offerings like bullheads, mudsuckers (if you can get them), grass shrimp, blood worms, and pile worms.  Cut fish baits will also work and may be an odiferous plus in murky water, but beware of crabs: they are all over.  Fish will be traveling now that the bait has been shaken up by the influx of fresher water.  Forget the good spots of the past week.  Be mobile and work between the east bay bridges as they pass through.

STURGEON: Now is the time.  The tides are right, the water is fast and churning with stirred up diamondback munchies.  Emeryville behind the Chinese restaurant, Point Pinole, Rodeo, Vallejo, and Port Costa are all seeing fish.  South Bay ought to be picking up by the Oakland Airport and own to the Dumbarton.  Shrimp baits or eel could be the best bait snow.

PERCH: This past week saw some good fishing die to the extreme incoming tides pushing large pogies and walleyed across the bay.  However, the rains will change al that.  Look for fish to go deeper and offshore as fresher water and pressure drop dictate relocation.  Might be the best time to hang out and a freshly washed pier.  Forget the surf unless you have a death wish.

MISCELLANEOUS SPECIES: Jacksmelt are about the only game in town since the rains.
