THE WEEKLY SHORELINER'S REPORT
{http://songslinger.virtualave.net/fishing.html}

Summary:  This Saturday will begin a much needed break form the minus tide cycles that have messed up the water and moved the fish away from the shore.  Could be some excellent halibut fishing if the wind behaves.

STRIPED BASS:   Point Isabel is where you should go when the water is low, especially at the bottom of the tide.  Or try Marina Bay when there is water.  Pretty slow this past week due to crummy tides.

STURGEON:  Diehards are trying in Alameda and San Pablo Bay, but not much is happening.  Montezuma Slough has them but you have to be there when the wind is down, and good luck for that!

PERCH: April 1 through July 31 marks the closure of perch fishing within the boundaries of the SF and SP Bays.  Lots of huge striped perch off the surf on the incoming tide, but they are all pregnant.

MISCELLANEOUS SPECIES: Some bat rays and jacksmelt around, but not too aggressive these days.  Sharks are a better prospect in channels and estuaries off the ocean.  Halibut are hard to find.  Best thing to do is take out your hair raisers and walk the rocks in Berkeley.

FRESHWATER:  Trout plants this week at San Pablo, Temescal, Lafayette, Contra Loma,  Del Valle, Chabot, Shadow Cliffs, Bon Tempe, and Los Vaqueros.   Though lures are starting to work for trout (Rapalas and Apex topping the bill),  bait is still a better idea for shoreliners.  Power bait in chartreuse and white are the hot colors.  Nightcrawlers and cheese will also work.  Catfish have come around and are hitting anchovies, mackerels, and nightcrawlers.  Black bass will strike crankbaits and plastics.  Not much going on with panfish until the weather warms up.

DELTA RUMORS: Just awful lately due to the weather and truly disappointing considering all the fish there.  Wait for a warming trend before you go.  Or get up there before dawn and throw spinners and plastics for black bass.  Catfish are available on summer baits like anchovies and mackerel but you will have to be mobile and adaptable if you want decent quantities.
