Summary:  Hot weather inland, foggy weather on the coast, and great fishing inbetween.

STRIPED BASS:  Finally some good news to report, and most of it is coming from the Crockett/Rodeo corridor.  Throwing lures, especially Rat-L-Traps in chrome, is definitely the way to go.  Twilight is the right time and limits are possible.  Fish are up to 27" with some pigs in the mix, but most will be from the 15-19" range.  Wade through the shorties and you will find that keeper.  At night, head out to the ocean and pitch dome big fat pencil poppers for a big fat striper.  Fort Point is starting to see some stripers when the tide is up at mid afternoon into the evening.  Hair raisers there. This week shows more potential than any time since the Fall Run of last year.  Get out there now!

STURGEON: There is sort of a summer renaissance going on at Bay Point, Martinez, and Port Costa.  Take grass shrimp and pile worms and sort through the pests like crabs or little stripers. The incoming tide is best.

PERCH: April 1 through July 31 marks the closure of perch fishing within the boundaries of the SF and SP Bays.  The surf is very sparse these days, not worth it for perch alone.

MISCELLANEOUS SPECIES:  Sharks are still pretty active at Oyster Point, so long as there is a good amount of water.   Bat rays continue to frequent the marinas and adjacent channels, with Emeryville and Richmond being the most likely spots.  The halibut fishing is awful from the shore, though hair raisers will scrounge up the small guys every so often around the Berkeley rocks.  Better chances exist just outside the gate for the hardy hikers and rock climbers.  If you are looking for rockfish, south of Half Moon Bay through Santa Cruz is a worthy range.

FRESHWATER:  Trout plants this week at Chabot. Catfish plants at Chabot, Del Valle, Shadow Cliffs, and Contra Loma.  Get there early for trout and go deep if you can.  Powerbait in rainbow colors has been the most steady producer of late .  Panfish are hitting red and wax worms.  Catfish like chicken livers and fishy offerings.  Black bass might be interested in spinners at twilight.

DELTA RUMORS:  Stripers have made a surprising appearance at Miner Slough and from Sherman Island to Antioch.  Cut sardines and broken-back lures are the most effective when the wind is down.  Catfish are everywhere, with the big channels getting caught on chicken livers at Mokelumne River.   Otherwise, it's clams and mackerels for the white catfish all over the Delta.  Black bass are fair to decent in the morning if you throw froggy lures at the weeds. Panfish action is good in the south on worm baits.  Sturgeon are around the usual haunts like Cache Slough and the Sacramento River on shrimp baits.
