THE WEEKLY SHORELINER'S REPORT
Summary: The month has locked in the sad pattern of 24/7 wind and it has gotten old really fast. But those with the stubborn heart of a true angler are getting fish out there. Dress warmly and work the deeper waters.

STRIPED BASS:
Hottest spot in recent days has been Ballena Bay, where some good sizes
have come in on pile worms and anchovies. Night is best. Other
possibilities include Fort Point, just below the Golden Gate Tower, and
Strawberry Point in Tiburon, using Hair Raisers.
STURGEON:
Absolutely no change. Grass shrimp might get a nice diamondback at
various spots around San Pablo Bay, mostly on the Marin side. Be
aware that mitten crabs are a nuisance these days.
PERCH:
Beat the wind and catch a perch or two along the rocks in the Bay.
Fishing is improving on the beaches but most of the energy there is concentrated
on bigger species.
MISCELLANEOUS
SPECIES: Not much change except the wind has made halibut fishing
harder at Berkeley Pier. They are still picking them up with the
usual ratio of four small ones for every keeper Sand sharks, bat
rays, and kingfish are all over from Emeryville to San Pablo Bay.
FRESHWATER:
Catfish plants in the following lakes: San
Pablo, Chabot, Contra Loma, Shadow Cliffs, and Del Valle. Chicken
livers, anchovies, and nightcrawlers have brought in some dandy catfish
from the lakes. Other anglers have concentrated on black bass with plastic
worms. Action is only fair. Trout
plant at San Pablo. Trout action is slow.
DELTA RUMORS:
Forget it. Even the bait and tackle shops up there are talking about
the Fall already. Catfishing remains the only reason to go up to
the Delta these days, but you better do it at night and avoid the jet skiers
and recreational boaters. Pointless otherwise.
