THE WEEKLY SHORELINER'S REPORT
                      {http://members.xoom.com/songslinger/fishing.html}

 Summary:  La Nina Part II.  Cold rains and slow fishing, just like last year at this time.  The good news is that it has to get better.  Sturgeon continue to move into the bays , following the brackish water in search of food.  Herring are coming through the Golden Gate in good quantities.

STRIPED BASS:  Try South Delta and a lot of luck.

STURGEON:  Grizzly Island, especially at the Montezuma Slough Bridge, and Bay Farm Island are the best bets for shoreliners.  Shrimp baits work most effectively.  Other places, like San Pablo through the Carquinez Strait, are too infected with crabs.

PERCH: Larger morning tides may help the East Bay but it's been miserable recently.  And the herring gathered from the Golden Gate through Sausalito hasn't helped the other side, either.  Also, the surf is too rough for fishing on the beaches. Some rumors of surf casters picking up perch at Ocean Beach a few days ago, but no one has confirmed them.  Just not a hopeful choice right now.

MISCELLANEOUS SPECIES: No changes.  Kingfish from San Pablo Bay through Martinez.  Eckley Pier has them.  Jacksmelt from the Berkeley Marina through Richmond.  Flounder still caught throughout Suisun Bay.  Some sand dabs have come into the Golden Gate.  Herring are also in.  Try Fort Baker.

FRESHWATER: Trout plants in the following lakes: Contra Loma, Lafayette, Chabot, Del Valle,     and Shadow Cliffs.  Contra Loma and Lafayette have been the most productive lately on glitter powerbait and nightcrawlers.  Rain runoff has slowed the bite elsewhere.  San Pablo Reservoir opens next Friday, 2/11.

DELTA RUMORS: The striped bass are far into the back waterways.  Georgiana Slough, Mokelumne River, Bacon Island, Middle River, and Downtown Stockton are the best prospects using shad, mudsuckers and bullheads.  Otherwise the main quarry is sturgeon on shrimp baits at Montezuma Slough Bridge, Sherman Island and north of Rio Vista.  Cache Slough at Ryer Island remains off limits, as do a variety of former shoreline spots now closed by farmers and water district people.  Catfish are caught in small numbers at Whiskey Slough, Sherman Island on the San Joaquin side, and at Grizzly Island.  Nothing much on black bass.
