THE WEEKLY SHORELINER'S REPORT
                           {http://members.xoom.com/songslinger/fishing.html}

 Summary: There is a silver lining in all this rain: the water flow has pushed stripers into San Pablo Bay and moved both sturgeon and flounder further down river.   It's also flushed mitten crabs as far as San Francisco Bay, so be ready to donate plenty of bait.  But the fish are there and they are getting caught.

STRIPED BASS: No change.  They are still in the North Bay.  Use shrimp baits, anchovies, or pile worms and try Point Pinole, Rodeo, The Maritime Academy in Vallejo, or Benicia.

STURGEON:  They are all around San Pablo Bay.  Find a good spot with a decent amount of water and throw out some mud or grass shrimp.  The law of averages is on your side

PERCH: The report remains the same, but possibly worse than ever. Chocolate water in San Francisco Bay isn't helping at all.  The perch are here, just hard to find in decent quantities unless you work stretches of shoreline and catch them one per spot, then move on.  The Richmond Inner Harbor is one of the more consistent places to catch white and black perch these days.  Pile worms and grass shrimps are working.  As far as the beaches, the recent spate of storms has made the surf difficult and dangerous.

MISCELLANEOUS SPECIES: Kingfish all over San Francisco Bay.  Jacksmelt near Candlestick Park.  Anchovies and pile worms.  Flounder in San Pablo Bay, with Point Pinole being a good choice.  Shrimp baits and blood worms.

FRESHWATER: Trout plants in the following lakes: Bon Tempe, Lagunitas, San Pablo, Lafayette, Chabot, Temescal,  Del Valle, and Shadow Cliffs.  Cloudy water makes for some iffy fishing, but rainbow PowerBait and nightcrawlers have been effective for trout. Catfish are biting chicken livers and fish baits.  Black bass action improving at San Pablo Reservoir.

DELTA RUMORS: The winter rains continue and so do the poor conditions.   Runoff and diverted water, filled with debris, have hindered striper fishing, but some are being taken near Rio Vista, White's Slough, and the San Joaquin branches near Stockton.  Sardines, shrimp baits and sardines are successful.   Sturgeon are being taken at Sherman Island and in the sloughs north of Rio Vista.  Catfishing has picked up in the San Joaquin River system, with the best catches at 8-Mile-Road, Bacon Island, and Jones Tract.  Clams and mackerel work best.
