THE WEEKLY SHORELINER'S REPORT
                                         {http://songslinger.virtualave.net/fishing.html}

 Summary: The Summer Doldrums may be over at last.   Striped bass are on their way back to the Delta, sturgeon are stirring, halibut are making a last appearance in better sizes, catfishing is excellent, and there are rockfish and perch to be caught.  Pick a species and a nice spot and be happy.

STRIPED BASS: The stripers are starting back to the Delta.  Best bets are San Quentin Point on Fish Traps and Rat-L-Traps, Rodeo on Hair Raisers, and the Berkeley shoreline from Frontage Road into the Marina on baits like pile worms, grass shrimp, anchovies.  Point Isabel is beginning to show promise on Hair Raisers and grass shrimp.

STURGEON:  Try Eckley Pier, or work the Rodeo shoreline.  They are moving slowly in the Delta as well.

PERCH: Few changes.  It's still great out there. The rocky areas of the East Bay and Marin area are still the best choices for perch these days.  Mostly black perch in the East Bay, with some pile perch in the mix. The Berkeley Marina and Point Isabel have been effective for some nice sizes in black perch recently.  Fish the last hour of the incoming through the first hour of the outgoing, use pile worms or grass shrimp, and watch those rods bend!  In Marin there is more variety with striped, rainbow, pile, walleyed, and white perches all biting now.

MISCELLANEOUS SPECIES: Halibut fishing is still pretty good at Berkeley Pier on live baits.  Jacksmelt are all over.  The South Bay has big leopard sharks taking midshipman, especially near Pacific Bell Park.   Rockfish are a fair bet at Fort Baker, still in small numbers, but getting better all the time.  Baker Beach, by the treacherous rocky cliffs, Muir beach, and Stinson are also good producers for rockfish now.

FRESHWATER: Channel catfish planted in the following lakes: Contra Loma, Temescal, Shadow Cliffs, Del Valle, and Chabot.  Florida-strain largemouth bass were planted at Del Valle, Shadow Cliffs, and Chabot.  Chicken livers and nightcrawlers for the catfish, plastic worms for the bass.  Trout fishing is slow.

DELTA RUMORS: Striped bass fishing continues to improve--so long as the wind and temperatures are down.  Most of the activity remains down river from Rio Vista, with the best catches at Sherman Island on the Sacramento River side.  Use shad, mudsuckers,  sardines, or pile worms.  Sturgeon fishing has really picked up in the same area as well as back sloughs all over the North Delta.  Grass shrimp is the top bait.  Black bass fishing is okay on crankbaits.  Catfishing is the best choice now, with crawdads and anchovies picking up nice channel cats all over the South Delta, and mackerel, clams, and chicken livers for other catfish all over.
