THE WEEKLY SHORELINER'S REPORT
                     {http://members.xoom.com/songslinger/fishing.html}

 Summary:  Extreme tides this past week cleaned out the Bay System and improved winter season fishing.  Striped bass,  sturgeon, and perch fishing are where they should be this time of year.

STRIPED BASS:  Ashby/Frontage Road offers one of the best chances for stripers right now in San Francisco Bay.   Pile worms, grass shrimp, and anchovies are all working.  San Pablo Bay is where most of  the action remains, however.  China Camp, Point Pinole, Rodeo, and Vallejo are all good choices.  Watch out for hungry sea lions when you're bringing in you fish.  Carquinez strait and Suisun Bay are also good with bullheads and grass shrimp, though shoreline spots are difficult with the strong outgoing tides.  Eckley Pier is a possibility.

STURGEON:  Anglers are starting to get exited about the Alameda Rockwall and Bay Farm Island, though not that many sturgeon have been caught.  Emeryville is seeing a few nice ones caught each week.  Shrimp baits are the most effective.  China Camp, Point Pinole, and Rodeo are fair bets on the same baits.

PERCH:  The ocean has been difficult lately, very rough with high waves breaking right where you want to cast.  Perch are close in but not too active.  San Francisco Bay is very good, with Sausalito and Berkeley being the two top choices along the rocks.  The last hour of the incoming tide and the first hour of the outgoing have been the best times to fish.  Pile worms and grass shrimp.

MISCELLANEOUS SPECIES:  Some small flounder at Ashby/Frontage Road.  Leopard sharks by the Golden Gate and nearby beaches.  Kingfish are showing up at Berkeley Pier.

FRESHWATER: Trout plants in the following lakes, Lafayette, Chabot, Del Valle, and Bon Tempe.   Nightcrawlers working for both trout and catfish.  Also, powerbaits and Kastmasters for trout.

DELTA RUMORS:  Stripers are all over the Delta, mostly in the 8-10# size for keepers.  Also a lot of little ones pecking at hooks and tearing off bait.  Live shad,  mudsuckers, and bullheads,  cut anchovies or sardines, lures like Hopkins, Horizon, Rebel, Rapala--all these are working well.  Best to stock up on a variety of baits.  North Delta has Steamboat Slough, Twitchell Island, Sherman Island, and Franks Tract to choose from.  South Delta has Bacon Island, Old River and downtown Stockton.  Sturgeon are also being taken from Cache Slough and Rio Vista on shrimp baits.
